From Harley Ferris: I'm a 3rd-year PhD student in Rhetoric and Composition at the University of Louisville, focusing on sonic rhetoric, public pedagogy, and digital media. My dissertation considers the evolving role of folks singers as public pedagogues over the last 100 years, focusing particularly on those whose careers might be considered rhetorical education projects. This year, I'm also an assistant director for our university's writing center, where my focus has been on building up our social media presence as a form of outreach across campus. I'm also a section editor for the journal Kairos, and I co-produce KairosCast, a new endeavor by the journal that includes a monthly podcast that connects technology, rhetoric, and pedagogy. In addition to my scholarly work, I've been writing and recording music for 20 years, and I'm fortunate to have gathered enough equipment to comprise a modest home studio for projects such as this compilation. I wrote this song in response to some of the anxiety I've felt about getting my first academic job, and I was thinking about how many spouses need to take jobs far away from their partners. My wife joins me on background vocals. For more information: www.facebook.com/themirabellaproject.
