The aria “In uomini, in soldati” from Cozi fan tutte by W. A. Mozart (1756-1828), is sung by the character Despina, a maid who mocks the faithfulness of men. “Let us females pay them back in an equal way—this evil, indiscreet race! Let’s love for convenience and vanity!” Despina proclaims. Jessica first performed this piece during her Music for the Stage class. She is thrilled to share this delightful aria with other writers from around the country and hopes they enjoy it as much as she does!
Jessica Settineri is a junior Music Education Major with a concentration in voice at Towson University in Towson, Maryland. She was delighted to join the Towson Writing Center staff in April 2014, and has since worked with countless numbers of students and continues to grow as a tutor and a writer. Her favorite part of tutoring is when students make the connection (the “Aha” moment!) between the ideas they want to convey and how to transfer them to a paper. She recently received the Music History Term Paper Award for her upper-level writing course paper entitled “The Popular Primitivism of Ragged Rhythms: The Influence of Ragtime on Twentieth Century Parisian Music.” This past semester, Jessica had the opportunity to star as an ugly stepsister, Prudence, in the children’s opera Cinderella performed by Towson University’s Opera in a Can. The cast presented the opera for several local elementary schools in order to encourage a lifelong love of art and culture through story telling, song, theatre, and dramatic performance.
