The Composition Blues Band began its archival work at the University of Arizona in the mid-1990’s. Researching the resurgence of rhetoric in American colleges in the second half of the 20th century, they found a handwritten copy of the original lyrics to “Rhetor B. Goode,” in Chuck Berry’s handwriting. This led to additional research into the hidden roots of rock and its close connection to the experiences of writing students, writing teachers, and writing program administrators. Their work continues to this day.
