Daniel Moon is a senior at Swarthmore College with a major in Political Science and minor in Japanese. His primary academic focus revolves around international relations, specifically political and security developments in East Asia. As a Writing Associate at Swarthmore, he has provided peer-to-peer review for writing assignments for a variety of academic courses, including Buddhism in American Literature, German Film and Cinema, and Political Theory. Daniel’s involvement in music comes mostly from his personal interest – after taking lessons on classical piano for two years as a kid, he began to train himself and explore various genres outside of the classical realm. He was an accompanist for the choir while in middle school, and has been involved in jazz ensembles and combos since high school. While he enjoys playing various styles, including classical, jazz, New Age, and minimalist genres, his piano compositions have mostly been written as soundtracks. Many of his pieces are responses to specific motifs or scenes from novels and films. Some of his favorite composers include Thomas Newman, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Bach, and Olafur Arnalds.
